Open Burning Ban – May 1st to September 30th
As is the case every year a Commonwealth of Kentucky,
Department of Environmental Protection open burning ban is now in effect. From
May 1st to September 30th of each year, the only open burning activities that
are allowed are as follows:
- Fires set for the cooking of food for human consumption;
- Fires set for prevention of a fire hazard, including disposal of dangerous
materials if no safe alternative is available;
- Fires set for the purpose of bona fide instruction and training of public
and industrial employees in the methods of fighting fires;
- Fires set for recognized agricultural, silvicultural, range, ecological, and
wildlife management practices;
- Fires set for the purpose of disposing of accidental spills or leaks of
crude oil, petroleum products or other organic materials, and the disposal of
absorbent material used in their removal, if no other economically feasible
means of disposal is available and practical. Permission shall be obtained from
the cabinet prior to burning; and
- Fires set for recreational or ceremonial purposes.
The Petersburg Fire Department has a limited supply of smoke alarms available to the community. If you need a smoke alarm or need your current ones checked please call 859-586-8030 and leave a message. One of our members will be more than happy to assist you.
